iFiles 2 has been released, continuing its role as a reliable tool designed to assist legacy users with file management on iOS devices. The application offers an intuitive interface coupled with extensive features aimed at enhancing productivity and file organization.

Notable functionalities include integration with numerous cloud services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud, Box.net, SkyDrive, and others, facilitating seamless connectivity. It supports transferring files between local storage, cloud platforms, and computers, thereby streamlining workflow. The PDF viewer has been upgraded to support annotations, full-text search, bookmarks, and direct saving to cloud services, enriching document management capabilities. Additionally, the app includes a voice recorder, web downloader (supporting HTML5 videos), text file editor, and media playback tools.

Supported online protocols and services encompass AFP (Mac Shares), FTP/FTPS, SFTP, Flickr, Picasa, Facebook, Rackspace CloudFiles, CloudApp, PogoPlug, WebDAV, Amazon S3, Ubuntu One Files, ownCloud, 4Shared, DreamObjects, and UltiCloud. This extensive compatibility ensures diverse access points for user data.

Key features include a web downloader via built-in browser or Safari bookmarks that supports HTML5 videos; direct email sharing of documents; an integrated voice recorder; context-sensitive popup menus for file operations; properties editor allowing customization of labels, icons, comments, tags, and privacy settings; file sharing among iOS devices via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth; and secure storage of credentials in iOS Keychain. Transfer management allows background operation with resume functionality; automatic uploads during creation or import of content simplify workflows. Support for clipboard pasting and opening files in compatible apps enhances interoperability. Printing via AirPrint is also supported.

The application enables comprehensive file operations such as move, copy, rename, delete, and folder creation—assuming the respective APIs are supported by the cloud service. Archive management includes creating and extracting ZIP, RAR, 7-zip, Tar, Gzip, and Bzip2 files. Media playback capabilities cover common audio and video formats supported by iOS devices. Thumbnails are generated for images, videos, and PDFs for easier visual identification.

Supported file formats include Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), iWorks files (Pages, Numbers, Keynote 2008 and 2009), HTML web pages and archives downloaded via Safari, PDFs, RTF/RTHD files, plain text with auto-detection of character encoding (editable), common video formats (MP4, MOV, MPV, 3GP, M4V), audio formats (WAV, MP3, M4A, CAF, AIF, AIFF, ACC), and a variety of image formats.

A Wi-Fi connection is required for file transfers between a home computer and the device. Updates are anticipated to include features like multiple photo selection support in future releases.
